OUR ALL INDIA JOURNEY – Taufiq Panjwani & Abdullah Parkar
We started this Great ALL INDIA JOURNEY with everyone, like everyone.. We did mistakes.. we learnt from some.. and did not from some.. ALL in all it was an amazing journey.. and what a journey it was.. RANK 8 and RANK 107 !!!!! (1+0+7 = 8) J Really wanted to share our story with all those souls who are working towards their DREAM of a PG SEAT !!!
So lets begin !!!
AI and AIIMS are probably the most cruel exams, but they are not invincible..
Crack karne ka josh rahega to definitely RANK 1 !!!! The whole idea of the examination is to make a person extremely strong mentally.. after all we are doctors and we are bound to face life-crunching situations in our careers.. AI n AIIMS is a simulation for the same.. Those 3 hours are probably the most crucial 3 hours of your life.. All your efforts should be towards making those 3 hours the best possible.. So Guys, get ready for the biggest battle of your life.. nearly 1 lac doctors competing… 300 question.. 1200 options.. 3 ½ hours.. and THE PRIZE at stake !!
Remember one eternal truth : “Agar kisi cheez ko badi shiddat se chaho to puri kainat use tumse milane ki koshish me jut jaati hai”
Yeh to shuruat hai!! Ab kya kare!!
First and foremost “decide your dream seat” think what you want?? AIIMS medicine, PGI paeds, KEM ortho or anything else.. decide what would really get you excited.. the thing that will keep you going at even at the most difficult moments.. Decide that for yourself.. and shoot.. KEM ORTHO karna hai to karna hai!! Period!!..
1) NEET vs All india
One eternal question that is going around is “NEET hoga ya nahi?? NEET hoga to all india ki preps ka koi fayda hai ya nahi?? “ yeh saari baat bakwaas hai.. Dont waste your time over it.. Strictly STAY AWAY from its discussion!!
NEET ho, All india ho ya AIIMs.. infact any exam (MHCET, JIPMER, DNB etc).. basics to same hi rahenge.. Agar by chance NEET ki notification aati hai.. to phir thoda sa modification preparations me karna padega.. but that will only be after your basic preparation..
2) Target NOV AIIMS :
November AIIMS is usually the best simulator for the real deal.. (didn’t happen this time though). If you are an intern your target should be atleast to get a rank in the first list.. If you are repeating, the target should be atleast “double-digit” rank !!
3) Bhatia Grand Tests :
Though the questions are not representative of the FINALS, but they definitely help you to assess your stand as compared to the rest of India.. Not everybody in India gives this exam.. but a significant number does.. so that becomes a good testing ground to compare with the rest.. So, give GT’s very seriously.. dedicate the 1st Sunday of every month to its complete discussion and evaluation.. Don’t give more than one day to it.. It will surely help..
Initially, the scores will be low, but the whole point of giving GTs is to maintain consistency..
Here are our RANKS at GTs:
| GT | Abdullah | Taufiq |
| 96 | 4372 | 250 |
| 97 | 3600 | 1007 |
| 98 | 3099 | 151 |
| 99 | 1550 | 251 |
| 100 | 1300 | 1696 |
| 101 | 1173 | 133 |
| 102 | 464 | 101 |
| 103 | 23 | 25 |
| ALL INDIA | 107 | 8 |
Abdullah : “Consistent studies every month will definitely improve your GT rank.. and that plays an important role at the FINALS.”
Taufiq : “GT is also an indicator of the times when you become LAX with your preps (Check my scores in GT 97 and 100).. This must stimulate you to put in that much EXTRA!!!”
4) If you have done a good preparation in UG, ofcourse it will be advantage. But, If you havent there is no point brooding over it. “try to fill the imperfections in plan with more studies….the more you study the better a plan gets….you have seen dumbos sticking to a plan and cracking the exam like Hell…”
5) This is a model strategic plan for preps. This is our view what we think is BEST. U may have different thoughts and ideas. So you must modify it accordingly..
Overall, what you need to study before NOV AIIMS is this :
Volumes(QnA mainly) + Subjectwise + Bipin V. Daga (last 5 yrs) + Notes (self-made)
Volumes : At least till 2003..
You have to develop a strategy to do volumes effectively.. Our take is.. Every guy must do at least 100 Question and answer only.. not the whole explanation.. that would take a lot of time.. So, one must stick to QnA from the volumes.. the explanations will be covered in Subjectwise..
Current Interns : 100 QnA in 2 hr everyday.. (not more than that)
Repeaters : 100 QnA in 1 hr..
Rest of the time should be dedicated to subjectwise ONLY!!!!
| Subjects | Books | No. of days (maxm) |
| Anat, Physio, BioC, FM | Across 2 | 1 month max. |
| Patho | Arvind Arora | 10 days |
| Micro | Arvind Arora | 10 days |
| Pharma | Sparsh Gupta | 15 days |
| ENT | ?? (sakshi arora may b) | 3 days |
| PSM | Arvind Arora | 10 days |
| Medicine | AA/MK + Bhatia Harr18 textbook | 1 month |
| Surgery | Amit Ashish | 20 days |
| OBGY | Sakshi Arora (both) | 14 days |
| Paeds | Arvind Arora | 7 days |
| SARPOO | Across 1 | 6 days each |
Considering the above timeline.. it would take at least 6 ½ months to complete subjectwise books..
Bipin Daga MHCET book :
This is specially for student appearing in Maharastra.. don’t give more than 15 days to it before November AIIMS.. It should be read after you have done the first reading of the whole subjectwise.. Even though the book is mainly for MHCET preps.. the charts and other content is high yield for other exams tooo… (charts of 2008 and 09, and complete books of 2010 and 11)
Self-made Notes :
This is one of the most important keys to cracking the exam.. As it will help you revise in the last week in the most efficient way.. It is better to make notes when you are reading the subjects for the second time (and maybe the last time!!) So, make a note of those points that are very important and likely to be forgotten.. Notes should preferably be made in small pocket diaries.. so that it Is with you everywhere (in wards, rounds, Ots, Canteen and travelling)..
Discussion :
Really high yield !!! Try to discuss concepts and facts whenever possible.. Use your self-made notes to discuss (while having lunch,, going for a walk, chai!! Etc.) This is of emmense help and will atleast improve your score by 10%.. use is judiciously and effectively.. with minimal timepass and arguments..
Some other thoughts to share :
1) “Without doubts and dips ur preps are incomplete. But use them as a tool of assesment and not as a weight around ur neck that slows u down.. No preparation is complete without a little bit of anxiety.. it shows that you are on the right track.. depression and happiness do not carry it for more than a day r two…consistency is the key”..
2) While reading subjectwise, there will be topics which you will not be comfortable with.. Do judicious back reference from standard books.. also use google , wikipedia, pubmed, NCBI website effectively… but don’t spend a lot of time on it at the expense of the subjectwise preparations.. Also, This will help in your NEET if that is happening..
3) Modify the schedule according to your personal strenghts and weaknesses.. Having a good understanding of yourself is very important..
4) Coaching classes are not necessary to score a rank.. It may help you to be abreast of the latest changes in the All india scenario.. If feasible and possible, then join maybe.. but it can never assure you a rank.. The crux is SELF STUDY and discussions..
5) Jo yaad karne wali cheeze hai use yaad karte chalo.. don’t procastinate.. do it over and over again.. it will surely help!!
6) Last and the most important point.. BELIEVE IN GOD!! HE has the ultimate control over eveything.. including your destiny.. Do your KARMA and leave the rest to HIM.. always keep this in mind during your preparation…
GOOD LUCK and ALL THE BEST guys!! Go out there and live your DREAM!!
